Last week Amanda, Maya and I flew to Newcastle to find ourselves a home. Julian stayed with Baba Dora in Tuebingen and except for a tick bite on his eye lid and some sickness I think they had a blast hanging out at the toy stores. There are two things I don't like about the US: shopping and driving. In Newcastle we found ourselves driving a lot and surrounded by immense shopping malls. So you can imagine we felt like home (U.S.). We could understand everyone and most folks are really friendly. In Germany we've learned to ignore people, because we suck at the language (even after several classes).
So we found a house to rent in an area that we like. We're close to friends from the University and the town is huge so there are lots of cute parts and not so cute parts. At least the stores have Dr. Pepper and Doritos. We also opened a bank account and realized how many dollars one needs to make a substantial amount in pounds. Quite a lot.
Maya hated being restricted in the car seat while driving around looking at properties, but Julian would have liked it even less. He and Baba Dora seemed to have hit it off well together and he showed her his favorites toys at the toy store.
So we're excited about the move and feel Newcastle can be a good home. At least when we fly in next for good we'll be able to imagine where we'll be living. But there's still a little hesitation about the big task ahead. So as Lando Calrisian said when he plunged the Millenium Falcon into the Death Star, "HERE GOES NOTHING !".
